The cover plate 10 is configured for insertion within the bracket 40 of a masonry support. The cover includes a profile plate 12 comprising a non-combustible material, with a generally C shape cross-section i.e. a planar portion with an interior and exterior face with first 20 and second 22 arms extending from the interior face at opposing ends thereof. The first arm comprises a lip 24, providing a fixing bracket, at a distal end, the second arm extends away from the planar portion and is shorter than the first. An intumescent material 14 is provided on the exterior face of the planar portion. The intumescent material may be a strip, sheet, or coating and may extend across the full width of the profiled plate, and/or cover the whole exterior and/or interior of the plate except the lip. Also claimed is a masonry support comprising the aforementioned cover wherein the cover may have an interference fit within the cavity of the bracket.
