Pile assembly and method of making a pile assembly
A pile assembly 2 located within a bore 5 comprises a pile 200 having a plurality of pre-formed pile sections 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D which define a hollow interior and several tensioning members 9, 10 for drawing the prefabricated pile segments together. The pulling members may be cables or rods and could be accommodated in channels. The ducts could be aligned with one another and may be formed in the surface or through the wall of the pile piece. A method of making such a pile assembly comprises providing multiple tensioning members in the bore and using them to orient the first pre-cast pile segment, then lowering the base 7 section down within the bore. The segments may then be stacked on top of one another. Multiple pile assemblies may be used to form a foundation system 1, which could have a cap 4. The pile assembly may comprise a cured grout 19 between the pre-moulded sections and the surface of the bore.
