A barbed wire installation tool and a method of installing at least a wire to a fence post includes a main body including a first wire retaining formation, a barbed wire positioning mechanism including a second wire retaining formation, wherein the barbed wire positioning mechanism is moveable / adjustable relative to the main body, so as to alter the distance between the first and second wire retaining formations. The adjusting mechanism may be provided by threaded formations operable by rotation of a graspable handle. The tool is used to hold two pieces of wire in spaced relation for securing to a fence post.
