A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The flow moderation system 1 comprises at least one concrete casting 2, which may be in the form of a channel, having a lower part which has at least one opening 220. At least one removable porous concrete component 3 covers the opening to form two longitudinal channels in the internal volume of the casting. The porous component is in the form of a block which makes up between 20-50% of the internal volume of the casting. The system acts to slow the flow of rainwater runoff from roads and pavements and can be placed in trenches, ditches or excavations. The system provides a water collection capacity whilst providing a controlled discharge of water through the porous block, out the openings and into the ground. The casting may be provided with a cover plate and the ends of the casting may include connection pieces for connection to further systems or a filtration or decantation module. An adjustable weir may be provided.
