A window assembly 40 comprising a window frame 12 having a plurality of frame elements 14 to retain one or more window elements 22, and at least one frame element 14 having a plurality of vent apertures 44 26, 46 to provide a gaseous conduit between the said first and second faces 26, 46 and an elongate weather canopy element 30 which is arranged in abutment with a vented frame element 28 and overlies a plurality of the vent apertures 44 to shield the vent openings. The elongate canopy element 30 includes a grill portion 32 which has a plurality of grill apertures 34 each of which is smaller than a vent aperture 44. Preferably the canopy has abutment formations which engage with a corresponding formation on the extruded frame member. There may also be an opaque canopy body having a deflection portion which extends at an oblique angle to the frame element to deflect rainwater or wind etc.
