Compositions, methods, and systems related to calcium carbonate blends
A calcium carbonate blend may comprise vaterite particles having an average particle size of about 0.1-50 µm and ground calcium carbonate (GCC) particles having an average particle size of about 1-150 µm. A cement product formed from the blend may comprise GCC particles and an interlocking acicular shaped aragonite microstructure or a calcite matrix. A method of producing the blend may comprise dissolving limestone in an N-containing salt solution to produce an aqueous solution comprising calcium salt; treating the solution with a carbon dioxide gas stream to produce the vaterite particles; and blending the vaterite particles with GCC particles. Alternatively, the limestone may be calcined to produce lime, which may be dissolved in the N-containing salt solution, and a CO2 gas stream which may be used for the carbonation step.
