Portable building unit
A portable building unit 100 such as a self-contained prefabricated transportable structure comprises a fire safety system having a one or more battery powered automatic fire alarms 20, such as a smoke detector or heat detector, and one or more automatic fire suppression devices 10 suspended from a surface 80 of the portable building unit 100. Each fire suppression device 10 comprises a pressurised tank 11 containing a fire supressing agent, a nozzle 13 (fig.2) through which the fire supressing agent exits the device 10 and a closed conduit comprising a seal 14 between the pressurised tank 11 and the nozzle 13 which, in the event of a fire, is configured to open thus allowing the fire supressing agent to discharge from the device 10 through the nozzle 13 under pressure. Each fire suppression device 10 further comprises a pressure sensor 15 for detecting that the fire suppression device 10 has been discharged. The fire alarms 20 may be wirelessly connected together. The first suppressing agent may be a powder, liquid or foam based agent. The seal 14 may be meltable above a specific temperature.
