A method of manufacturing palisade fencing pales 4 from a continuous feed of strip metal includes the step of cutting the strip metal into individual fencing pales using a press 5. The press is moveably mounted so as to both (i) move in parallel with the continuous feed of strip metal when the press is pressing the strip metal and (ii) to move back to a previous position when the press is not pressing the strip metal. In a single action, the press may cut: one end of a first pale and other end of a second pale (4’, Figure 6) which is adjacent the first pale on the metal strip; a pointed end 64 to serve as the top of the second pale 4’ and a flat end 63 to serve as the bottom of the first pale 4; at least one aperture 61 in one or both of the end of the first pale or the other end of the second pale to serve as means for securing the pales to a corresponding fencing rail(s). Apparatus 1 for manufacturing the fencing pales from strip metal includes means 2 for continuously feeding the strip metal to the press.
