A floor levelling device 100, e.g., paving machine, for the levelling of an aggregate based compound, e.g., concrete, asphalt etc, to form a floor (1a, fig. 8) of constant thickness over a subfloor (2a, fig. 8). The device comprising a first portion 200 arranged to move a second portion across the subfloor, the second portion comprising a head member 300 adapted for levelling of the compound, the second portion comprising a foot member 310 configured to be held at a constant height below the head member 300 and adapted to maintain direct contact with the subfloor. The foot member 310 may be arranged to follow the shape of the subfloor over sagging (2b, fig. 8) or otherwise non-level regions. The second portion may be a removable attachment. The device may comprise a laser detector 210, used by the device for maintaining a predefined height of the head member.
