A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A telescopic handrail (1) with telescoping members (10,20) that can move between contracted and expanded positions. The telescoping members (10,20) each have a free end (11,21) and an opposing telescoping end (12,22). Locking means (13,23,24) such as a magnet is provided to releasably secure the telescoping members (10,20) in the contracted position. A restraint (40,41) such as a stop inside the outer member (20) prevents the telescoping members (10,20) from separating more than the expanded position. A fixing device (30) can secure a free end (11) of the first telescoping member (10) to a fixed point, and a second releasable fixing device (50) such as a pin can releasably secure a free end (21) of the second telescoping member (20) to a fixed point. The first telescoping member (10) may be attached by a universal joint allowing movement of the telescoping members (10,20) in two planes relative to the first fixing device (30).
