Lock and method for securing a property
A lock is operable with a first key having a first bitting and with a second key having a second bitting different to the first bitting wherein use of the second key will rekey the lock and prevent further operation thereof with the first key. A user may be provided with the first key and the second key; the user operating the lock with the first key; and upon loss of the first key, the user operating the lock with the second key thereby rekeying the lock and preventing further operation thereof with the first key. Preferably the lock is a cylinder with a plurality of pin tumbler stacks comprising driver pins 12 and key pins 10 wherein at least one of the pin stacks includes a spacer 14 such as a ball bearing. Use of the first key the ball bearing remains in below the shear line, during use of the second key the ball bearing is moved past the shear line and upon rotation of the plug 6 by the second key the ball bearing is urged into a separate cavity 20 in the plug to rekey the pin stack.
