WALL-FLOW FILTER WITH THIN POROUS CERAMIC WALL
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-walled wall-flow filter which combines sufficient mechanical strength and sufficient bulk heat capacity, realizes a relatively low pressure drop and relatively high initial filtration efficiency (EP0), and enables packaging of the filter in a smaller volume.SOLUTION: The ceramic wall-flow filter includes a plurality of porous ceramic walls forming multiple cell channels. At least some of the cell channels have plugs to force an exhaust gas to pass through the walls, thereby filtering out particulates contained in the exhaust gas. The walls have a thickness and a median pore diameter (MPD) that satisfy 102 μm≤Twall<279 μm and 10<40. The relatively small median pore diameter (MPD) in comparison to the wall thickness (Twall) allows the use of thinner walls that provide less flow resistance than thicker walls while maintaining sufficient initial filtration efficiency (EP0).
