AEROGEL COMPOSITE MATERIALS WITH FIBROUS BATTING
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide aerogel composite materials improved in one or all of flexibility, drape, durability, resistance to sintering, x-y thermal conductivity, x-y electrical conductivity, RFI-EMI attenuation, and/or burn-through resistance.SOLUTION: A composite material article for insulation comprises an aerogel matrix and a lofty fibrous batting sheet 12 being compressible by at least 65% of its thickness and returning to at least 75% of its original thickness after compression for 5 seconds. The fibrous batting sheet constitutes less than 20% of the total area of the cross section.
