HONEYCOMB FILTER, AND HONEYCOMB FIRED BODY
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a honeycomb filter which has satisfactorily low pressure loss in such an initial state that PM (particulate matter) is not deposited thereon and which has satisfactorily high strength and deterioration of whose heat capacity can be suppressed.SOLUTION: The honeycomb filter is used for cleaning exhaust gas from a gasoline engine. A honeycomb fired body 10 includes a plurality of cells 20 and porous cell partition walls 30 for partitioning/forming the cells 20. The cell partition wall 30 to be connected to an outer peripheral wall of the honeycomb fired body 10 has such a thick wall area that the wall thickness becomes larger gradually as it goes toward the outer peripheral wall. An outer peripheral cell consists of: an outer peripheral exhaust gas introduction cell 21a, the exhaust gas inlet-side end 10a of which is opened and the exhaust gas outlet-side end 10b of which is plugged; and an outer peripheral exhaust gas discharge cell 21b, the exhaust gas outlet-side end 10b of which is opened and the exhaust gas inlet-side end 10a of which is plugged. An area of the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the outer peripheral exhaust gas introduction cell 21a is made larger than that of the cross section perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the outer peripheral exhaust gas discharge cell 21b.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
