PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a MgF-CaFbinary system sintered body for a radiation moderator having a dense polycrystalline structure, which is excellent in radiation moderation performance, especially in neutron moderation performance.SOLUTION: Provided is a MgF-CaFbinary system sintered body of a dense polycrystalline structure, which contains CaFin an amount of 0.2 to 90 wt% relative to MgF, has a bulk density of 2.96 g/cmor more, has mechanical strength of flexural strength of 15 MPa or more and a Vickers hardness of 90 or more, and is excellent in radiation moderation performance, especially in neutron moderation performance.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
