PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method of a glass panel unit capable of acquiring a glass panel unit in which glass is hardly broken when activating a getter, and an assembly of the glass panel unit.SOLUTION: A glass panel unit 10 comprises: first and second glass panels 20, 30 which face each other; a frame-state seal 40 for jointing the first and second glass panels 20, 30 in an air-tight state; a vacuum space 50 surrounded by the first and second glass panels 20, 30, and the seal 40; and a gas adsorption device 60. The gas adsorption device 60 comprises: a first electrode 61 having a first inside part 610 disposed in the vacuum space 50, and a first outside part 611 disposed outside of the vacuum space 50; a second electrode 62 having a second inside part 620 disposed in the vacuum space 50, and a second outside part 621 disposed outside of the vacuum space 50; and a gas adsorption part 63 having a gas adsorption body 630 including a getter, and connected to between the first inside part 610 and the second inside part 620.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
