HIGH STATIC FATIGUE ALUMINA ISOPIPE
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an isopipe comprising a body having a configuration adapted for use in a fusion process.SOLUTION: There is provided an alumina isopipe 13 having a body (i) comprising at least 90 vol.% of crystalline AlO, (ii) comprising an alumina refractory comprising a glass phase, wherein (a) a glass of the glass phase comprises alumina and silica which constitute at least 90 mol% of the glass in terms of oxide, (b) the glass has the content of alkali earth plus rare earth of 2 mol% or more in terms of oxide, (c) the glass has the alkali content of 5.5 mol% or less. The alumina isopipe has static fatigue in terms of time-to-failure of at least 1 hour when tested at 1200°C at an applied stress of 10,000 psi (about 69 MPa).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
