PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable electrochromic device that can suppress breakage of the device due to volume expansion in the device.SOLUTION: The present invention provides an organic electrochromic device including: a pair of electrode substrates; an organic electrochromic solution between the electrodes; and an air bubble between the electrode substrates. The electrode substrates each include a first region and a second region, the contact angle of the surface of the first region with water is smaller than the contact angle of the surface of the second region with water, the organic electrochromic solution is between the first region of one of the electrode substrates and the first region of the other electrode substrate, and the distance between the electrode substrates is a distance which holds the organic electrochromic solution.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
