PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength conversion element capable of efficiently taking out fluorescent light.SOLUTION: A wavelength conversion element 41 comprises: a reflecting layer 412 consisting of a sintered body containing metal oxide; and a phosphor layer 411 consisting of a sintered body containing phosphor. The phosphor layer 411 includes: a first surface 411A from which fluorescent light is emitted; and a second surface 411B different from the first surface 411A. The second surface 411B has a bottom surface region 411B1 facing the first surface 411A.
