PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a seal layer of a separation membrane structure.SOLUTION: A separation membrane structure comprises: a substrate made of a porous inorganic material and including a first end face and a second end face in the longitudinal direction, a separation membrane formed on the internal surface of the passage; and an outer peripheral surface formed in at least a portion of the outer peripheral surface of the substrate. The outer peripheral surface is larger in the area of the first end face side than the second end face side across the bisector of the longitudinal length of the substrate.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
