PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon electrode for quartz glass melting, capable of suppressing the occurrence of foam in quartz glass (a transparent layer), suppressing the cutting off of arc discharge during the arc discharge and forming uniform quartz glass.SOLUTION: A carbon electrode 1 for quartz glass melting includes an electrode base material having a bulk density of 1.72-1.75 g/cmand carbon having a specific resistance of 7-8 μΩm and is suitably used, for example, when a quartz glass crucible 11 is manufactured. The carbon electrode 1 (an electrode base material) is carbon formed by a general manufacturing method using carbon particles being a mixture obtained by carbonizing a raw material of coke, etc., for example, a binder, such as coal based pitch coke and coal tar pitch.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
