REJUVENATION OF RECLAIMED ASPHALT
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rejuvenation method for reclaimed pavement asphalt that is difficult to treat and has characteristics different from virgin asphalt.SOLUTION: Asphalt compositions comprise reclaimed asphalt and an ester-functional rejuvenating agent. The rejuvenating agent is present in an amount effective to reduce the glass-transition onset temperature of an aged binder by at least 5°C compared with the glass-transition onset temperature of the aged binder without the rejuvenating agent. The asphalt composition comprises 1 to 99 wt.% of virgin aggregate based on the combined amounts of virgin asphalt and rejuvenating agent. Preferably, the asphalt composition comprises 0.1 to 15 wt.% of the rejuvenating agent based upon the combined amount of an oxidizing asphalt binder and the rejuvenating agent. The reclaiming agent is preferably derived from monool of C-, diol or triol and C-fatty acid, or its dimer acid.SELECTED DRAWING: None
