PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous honeycomb structure that comprises cordierite as a principal component and can tolerate high sintering temperature for a long period, and to provide a honeycomb filter using the same.SOLUTION: A porous honeycomb structure 120 has one end face 100a, the other end face 100b, and a plurality of flow paths 110 extending from the one end face 100a to the other end face 100b. The porous honeycomb structure 120 comprises cordierite as a principal component, where the total concentration of sodium oxide, potassium oxide, calcium oxide, and iron oxide is 3,100 mass.ppm or lower.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
