PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spacer for a gas-fitted double layer glass capable of maintaining the leakage prevention function of an inert gas caused by a primary seal material over a long period, and a gas-fitted double layer glass.SOLUTION: Provided is a spacer 14 comprising a spacer body 22 and a gas leakage prevention layer 24. The gas leakage prevention layer 24 includes a primary seal material coating part 26 stretched to a part at which the side faces 22F on both the sides of the spacer body 22 and a glass plate 12 are confronted from the slope 22E of the spacer body 22. The primary seal material coating part 26 is adhered to each side face 22F of the spacer body 22 with a butyl rubber 28 including a solid component(s) other than the butyl rubber, and is also fixed to the glass plate 12 with a butyl rubber 30. The adhesive force (a) between the primary seal material coating part 26 by the butyl rubber 28 and the spacer body 22 is prescribed to 0.01
