PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a black, heat-insulating material which is inexpensive and is excellent in a heat-insulating property.SOLUTION: A heat-insulating material comprises a petroleum coke pulverized product with a volatile content of 4-20 mass%. Preferably, the heat-insulating material comprises the petroleum coke pulverized product with a sulfur content of 0.1-12 mass%. The heat-insulating material comprises the petroleum coke pulverized product with a true density of 1.2-2.0 g/cm. The heat-insulating material comprises the petroleum coke pulverized product with lightness of 25 or lower and a reflection index of 10% or higher in a wavelength of 2000 nm. The heat-insulating material comprises the petroleum coke pulverized product made of a processed product by drying a residue of a thermal decomposition treatment of a row oil for thermal decomposition at 50-500°C.SELECTED DRAWING: None
