PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To identify thermally-expandable refractory materials even in a dark place.SOLUTION: A thermally-expandable refractory material 1 has: a refractory layer 2 composed of a refractory composition containing a matrix component, which comprises a resin, an elastomer, a rubber, or a combination of them, and thermally-expandable graphite; and a substrate layer 3 put on the refractory layer 2. The substrate layer 3 is coated with a fluorescent coating that emits fluorescence when irradiated with ultraviolet light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
