To provide a vehicle controller, a variable reception range system and a portable device capable of suppressing power consumption of a battery provided in the portable device.SOLUTION: An out of execution range determination unit 14b determines that a portable device exists in a reception range 30 and outside of an execution range 31 if received strength is a first threshold value or less. In this case, a sensitivity reduction request unit 15a transmits a reception sensitivity reduction request to the portable device. The sensitivity reduction request unit 15a narrows the reception range 30 until the portable device cannot receive a response request signal. Therefore, the number of replies of the portable device corresponding to the response request signal becomes smaller.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
