To make it kick immediately at a reception part of a door frame if a gap (between vertical faces of a door end and a door frame) fluctuates.SOLUTION: A sliding door assist device comprises a fixed member fixed to a door surface of a sliding door, an operating member axially supported by the fixed member, a housing provided within the sliding door on a door end side, a drive member disposed in the housing, and a kicking mechanism disposed in the housing so as to operate due to driving force of the drive member. The kicking mechanism includes an assist rod that is supported by an assist base so that it can advance and retract, and assist biasing means that biases the assist rod so that the tip part of the assist rod contacts or approaches a reception part on a door frame side. When a door is opened, the drive member is operated by operating force of the operating member, and the assist rod is pressed against the reception part on the door frame side because of driving force of the drive member.
