To provide a radio communication system capable of improving a crime prevention effect while avoiding complication of signal processing.SOLUTION: A radio communication system includes: an on-vehicle unit 1 which can wirelessly transmit an access signal by operating an access button 1a; a portable machine 2 which can wirelessly transmit an authentication code inherent to a vehicle on a condition that the access signal is received; and determination means 4 which can determine whether or not the authentication code is a normal authentication code on a condition that the authentication code is received. When the determination means 4 determines that the authentication code is the normal authentication code, start-up of a driving source of the vehicle can be permitted and the vehicle can be traveled. In the radio communication system, a crime prevention mode for stopping a transmission function of the access signal by the on-vehicle unit 1 or the authentication code by the portable machine 2 can be set by prescribed setting operation.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
