To provide an obstacle detecting device which can properly set an area for detecting an obstacle existing around a machine body of a construction machine in a mode considering a slope state of the construction machine with respect to a peripheral ground.SOLUTION: A controller 30 including a function as an obstacle detecting device comprises: a slope information obtaining portion 31 obtaining slope information exhibiting a relative slope state of a machine body (a revolving structure 3) with respect to a peripheral ground that is a ground surface existing around a ground surface where a construction machine 1 is positioned; and an area setting portion 32 setting a monitor area AR for detecting an obstacle so as to change according to the slope information.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
