To provide a sterilization device that makes it possible to effectively sterilize a grip rod of a handrail, without manual work, and a handrail equipped with the sterilization device.SOLUTION: A sterilization device for sterilizing a handrail has a grip rod 10 with a coating layer containing a photocatalyst being formed on its surface. The sterilization device has: a mover body 2 that is mounted to the grip rod and moves in the lengthwise direction of the grip rod; and a light irradiation device 41 that is held by the mover body 2 and irradiates the surface of the grip rod with visible light.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
