To provide a highly stable gas sensor which can detect carbon dioxide.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a carbon dioxide gas sensor including: an insulating substrate; and a gas sensing layer above one main surface of the insulating substrate with an electrode therebetween, the gas sensing layer including at least one rare earth oxide represented by Ln2O3 (Ln is at least one rare earth metal element selected from Sc, Y, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm, Pr, Yb, and Lu), and also relates to a method for manufacturing the gas sensor.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
