To provide a crawler drive unit which enables reduction of a possibility that a motor contacts with sand or rocks etc., and to provide a construction machine.SOLUTION: A crawler drive unit 1 of an embodiment includes: a speed reduction mechanism 4 which is provided at a travel part 102 which causes a vehicle main body 101 to travel and transmits driving force to a crawler provided at the travel part 102; a transmission mechanism 3 which transmits the driving force to the speed reduction mechanism 4; and an electric motor 2 which applies rotational force to the speed reduction mechanism 4. A motor shaft 7 of the electric motor 2 is located above a rotation axis Jn of an input shaft 16 of the speed reduction mechanism 4.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
