To provide an additive for a hydraulic composition, capable of exhibiting both excellent initial dispersibility and excellent flow retention in hydraulic compositions, when used in the hydraulic compositions.SOLUTION: An additive for a hydraulic composition comprises, in its molecule, a water-soluble vinyl copolymer comprising: a constituent unit 1 formed from a compound of the general formula (1); a constituent unit 2 formed from a compound of the general formula (2); and a constituent unit 3 formed from a compound of the general formula (3), wherein when a sum of the constitution ratio of the constitutive unit 1, the constitutive unit 2, and the constitutive unit 3 is 100 mass%, the additive contains 65 to 95 mass% of the constitutive unit 1, 2 to 30 mass% of the constitutive unit 2, and 0.1% to 25 mass% of the constitutive unit 3.SELECTED DRAWING: None
