To provide an improved maintenance-free bushing having high load capacity.SOLUTION: A sliding member includes a load bearing substrate, an aluminum-containing layer, and a sliding layer. The load bearing substrate has a first principal surface, a second principal surface, and an edge portion. The load bearing substrate further has a thickness t1. The aluminum-containing layer can be laminated on the first principal surface and can be directly kept into contact with the first principal surface. The aluminum-containing layer has a thickness t2. In one or more embodiments, t2 is 10 μm or more. The sliding layer can be laminated on the first principal surface or the second principal surface.
