To provide a method of producing a nuclear fuel pellet for producing gadolinia-added MOX pellets excellent in manufacturability and economy, and also to provide a fuel assembly.SOLUTION: A method of producing a nuclear fuel pellet is provided, which is used for producing gadolinia-added MOX pellets, and includes the steps of: mixing, molding and sintering a sintering aid and gadolinia powder to produce a sintered body; pulverizing the sintered body to produce the gadolinia-containing sintering aid powder; and mixing, molding, and sintering the uranium dioxide powder and the gadolinia-containing sintering aid powder to produce (U,Gd)O2 pellets.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
