To provide a cubic boron nitride sintered body capable of extending a tool life with its excellent wear resistance and defect resistance.SOLUTION: The cubic boron nitride sintered body comprises cubic boron nitride and a binder phase, with the content of cubic boron nitride being not less than 81 vol% and not more than 95 vol% relative to the total amount of the sintered body, the content of the binder phase being not less than 5 vol% and not more than 19 vol% relative to the total amount of the sintered body, the content of Al contained in the binder phase being not less than 0.5 mass% and not more than 5 mass% relative to 100 mass% of the total of all elements contained in the sintered body, the content of W contained in the binder phase being not less than 2 mass% and not more than 10 mass% relative to 100 mass% of the total amount of all elements contained in the sintered body, the content of V contained in the binder phase being not less than 2 mass% and not more than 8 mass% relative to 100 mass% of the total amount of all elements contained in the sintered body, and the content of Cr contained in the binder phase being not less than 0 mass% and not more than 5 mass% relative to 100 mass% of the total amount of all elements contained in the sintered body.SELECTED DRAWING: None
