To provide a thermal insulation material that can exhibit excellent thermal insulation characteristics in both radiant heat transfer and conductive heat transfer.SOLUTION: Provided is a thermal insulation material formed from a molded body containing carbon fiber and flaky graphite, wherein the carbon fiber and the flaky graphite are joined via a carbonaceous binding agent; and the flaky graphite is included in at least a half area in the thickness direction of the molded body.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
