The invention relates to a method for treating the surface of a ceramic material in a powder form. The method comprises the steps of: providing powder composed of a plurality of particles of a ceramic material to be treated; and performing an ion implantation process by directing a beam of a singly or a multiply charged ion produced by a source of a singly or a multiply charged ion of, for example, an electron cyclotron resonance ECR type towards ceramic powder particles, wherein the particle generally has a polyhedral shape. The present invention also relates to a material in a powder form, which is composed of a plurality of particles having a ceramic external layer (26) and a ceramic core (24), wherein the particle generally has a polyhedral shape.
