An aerosol generating device is disclosed. The aerosol generating device of the present disclosure includes: a body; a first container containing a wick, heater and memory; a second container storing a liquid; a cartridge detection sensor detecting coupling between the first container and the second container; and a control unit, wherein the body and the first container are separably coupled to each other, and the first container and the second container are separably coupled to each other, and the control unit obtains data stored in the memory when the body and the first container are combined, and when the first container and the second container are combined while being separated from each other, and based on the obtained data, the control unit determines whether to supply the initial power corresponding to the combination to the heater, and based on the decision to supply the initial power to the heater, can control the initial power to be supplied to the heater.
