Electric current is supplied to the cassettes, alternately one cassette or a group of two or more cassettes becoming the cathode, and any remaining or some of the remaining cassettes becoming the anode. Thereinafter each successive cassette or the subsequent group of cassettes in a chain or through one cassette or group of cassettes, or in staggered order, alternately becomes the cathode. The method of protecting against biological fouling provides for the pulsed current supply between the cassettes.
