Плужный каналокопатель обеспечивает уплотнение грунта на глубину 40-50 см, повышает его объемный вес на 20-30% и уменьшает потерю воды на фильтрации в 5-10 раз, что обеспечивает продолжительность действия искусственного уплотнения на ряд лет. Процесс формирования канала и уплотнения бокового откоса протекает неразрывно. Уплотнение грунта бокового откоса осуществляется подкрылком, приваренным к нижнему обрезу отвала.
