A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
A building includes a base structure and a roof secured to the base structure. The roof structure includes a first planar portion extending from a peak to a first terminal end of the roof and pitched at a first angle relative to a horizontal axis, a second planar portion extending from the peak to a joining region and pitched at a second angle, relative to the horizontal axis, that is optimized for insolation of the second planar portion at a geographical latitude of the building and that is different than the first angle and less than about 90 degrees. The roof structure also includes a third planar portion extending from the joining region to a second terminal end of the roof and pitched at a third angle relative to the horizontal axis, and a solar collector positioned on the second planar portion.
