The shade structure assembly includes a number of legs that are extendable in length to adapt to the contour of the wet or dry surfaces. The legs are coupled to the canopy. A foot assembly is included for releasable coupling to the bottom of the legs. The foot assembly is configured to provide ballast and a suitable contact surface for contacting a plaster pool. The foot assembly may be made from a different material than the legs. The canopy is configured to expand and provide a shade area.
