A vibration isolation apparatus 1 includes: an annular laminated elastic body 6 in which elastic material layers formed of elastic plates 2 and rigid material layers formed of a plurality of annular thin-walled rigid steel plates 3 and a pair of annular thick-walled rigid steel plates 4 and 5 are alternately laminated; a cylindrical plug 9 formed of a vibration damping material and disposed densely in a cylindrical hollow portion 8 defined by at least an inner peripheral surface 7 of the laminated elastic body 6; upper and lower flange plates 12 and 11 respectively connected to the thick-walled rigid steel plates 4 and 5 by bolts 10; and a pair of annular shear keys 13 for each fixing each of the upper and lower flange plates 12 and 11 and a corresponding one of the thick-walled rigid steel plates 4 and 5 to each other at each of a lower surface and an upper surface of the cylindrical plug 9.
