An extendable door lock to be applied across the exterior of a door that opens outwards to help prevent illicit passage through the door thereby helping to prevent theft or damage to contents in a room or facility located behind the door. In addition, the extendable door lock can be applied to the interior of a door that happens to open inwards; such use can stop someone illicitly entering an office or other space where, for example, there is someone working late and alone who desires a lock to prevent someone entering the office. In one non-limiting embodiment, an extendable door lock is provided comprising: a first shaft, a second shaft, a first mounting bracket, a second mounting bracket, and a lock mechanism. In one non-limiting embodiment an extendable door lock sub-assembly is provided comprising: a first shaft, a second shaft, and a lock mechanism.
