The invention relates to a method for sequestering CO2, which comprises the steps of providing a starting product comprising at least 20% by mass of one or more of the following components, ultramafic rocks, weathering products of ultramafic rocks, olivine and/or industrial waste materials, homogenizing the starting product and hydro-thermally treating the homogenized starting product in a heat treatment apparatus at a temperature of above 100° C. for at least 24 hours. Furthermore, the converted starting product is dewatered of bound water by means of thermal treatment and/or reaction grinding. Subsequently, the product thus obtained is contacted with CO2, wherein the latter is bound.
