The result of working with an earth moving machine comprising a bucket may be determined by means of the known dimensions of the bucket combined with determinations of the depth of cutting and the horizontal travel or accumulated length of horizontal travel. The depth of cutting is determined by using the bucket as a receptacle as well as a depth sensor.
