Provided is an electric motor that comprises: a rotor comprising a rotating shaft (40) that rotates around an axis (O) extending vertically, and a rotor core fixed to the outer circumferential surface of the rotating shaft (40); a stator surrounding the rotor core from the outer circumferential side; a lower base section (27) in which the rotor and the stator are arranged and that serves as a partition for demarcating a first space to which lubricating oil is supplied from the exterior; a storage section (180) capable of storing lubricating oil supplied into the first space (R1); a brake mechanism (120) serving as a drive section for discharging lubricating oil from within the storage section (180) into the first space (R1); and sliding sections into each of which lubricating oil discharged from within the storage section (180) is introduced.
