A tool changer (150), a construction machine (1) with such a tool changer (150) and a method of mounting a tool (20) on the construction machine (1) are provided. The tool changer (150) comprises at least one tool retaining portion (152) for holding a tool (20) being mountable to the tool mount (3). The tool changer (150) is configured to be movably attached to the construction machine (1) and comprises a moving mechanism for moving the tool retaining portion (152) in alignment with the articulated boom (2) of the construction machine (1) to allow for picking of the tool (20) by the tool mount (3). Thus, the tool changer (150) may provide a mechanism for self-mounting or self-exchanging of tools (20) on a construction machine (1).
